Energy self-sufficient sensor systems

Energy self-sufficient sensor systems based on electromagnetic energy

The wireless measurement of physical quantities such as temperature, humidity, force, pressure, acceleration, radiation intensity, and more, without the use of batteries, is gaining increasing importance. Such self-powered sensor systems can be realized, for example, through Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) or Near Field Communication (NFC). While NFC is used for short distances in the centimeter range, RFID can wirelessly transmit data over several meters. This enables the identification of objects through the use of electromagnetic waves, with typical applications including access control, theft prevention, or tracking of deliveries. Thanks to NFC and RFID technology, measurements can be performed in a simple and wireless manner without the need for complicated wiring.

NFC-based sensor systems

NFC (Near Field Communication) is a short-range wireless communication technology that enables the exchange of data wirelessly over short distances, typically within a few centimeters, between NFC-enabled devices. NFC-based sensor systems utilize this technology to read information from sensors and transmit it to an NFC-enabled device such as smartphones.

RFID Schaltung

In English: RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) uses electromagnetic waves to wirelessly exchange data between an RFID transponder (also known as a tag) and a reader device. The reader device emits electromagnetic radiation into space through an antenna. The RFID transponder then utilizes this electromagnetic wave as electrical energy. Connected sensors can thus capture various physical quantities and wirelessly transmit the measured data to an RFID reader device.

These can be used in various applications, such as warehouse management for inventory tracking or monitoring environmental conditions in food production. The transponders can also be designed to adhere to metallic surfaces.
