Cliché or printing plates
An overview of our printing plates
Clichés are of crucial importance for the quality of the print. Due to the various requirements such as precision, service life, interchangeability, the following systems have prevailed:
- Alcohol or water-washable cliché plates
These plates consist of a steel support covered with a photosensitive layer. After exposure, the exposed areas are washed out either with alcohol or with water. The unexposed areas remain as a relief and form the printed image. Alternatively, these can also be engraved using a CO2 laser. - Steel cliché plates
These plates consist of a metal plate that is etched with an acid (predominantly ferric chloride or nitric acid). The exposed areas of the plate are protected by a photosensitive layer, while the unexposed areas are etched. The etched areas form the printed image. Alternatively, these can be engraved using a fiber laser.
